Ethically Sourced Handmade Goods
The Market Find was founded by Miriam, a block printer and textile artist based in New Jersey. Miriam founded The Market Find on the sole principle of scouting ethnic textile crafts from talented artisans who produce ethically handmade and functional products.
"Originally from Pakistan, I have extensive experience working in the textile industry and was always concerned with artisans losing their jobs or skills to factories. The Market Find is a boho-chic brand that makes patchwork quilts, wood block prints, traditional tie-dyes and leather bags. Being a skilled artisan myself, I produce a lot of handmade goods myself in my studio."
Miriam came up with the idea for The Market Find many years ago when she was working in the textile industry and realized that women artisans are "largely underpaid yet they are the ones who invest the time to carry forward traditional crafts."
"Now a lot of my products come from women workers who are paid a better than fair wage. I found that equipping the woman of the house with a wage, changes the dynamic of the household. That has been the key motivator for me. I want to change the world one artisan at a time by giving them the means to make a better life for their children."
"Every waking moment, I am playing with colors, patterns, shapes and textile techniques in my head. A chunk of my time goes into creating new products, fulfilling orders and researching. My day starts with scouting social media and planning posts for the day, taking care of my online shop, answering emails and collaborating with boutiques. On a typical day I would do some photography, sketch, create something new or finish ongoing projects. I cook every day so an hour is reserved for that in the evening. Dinner is when the family gets together and its the most special time of the day for us."
The Market Find will be at the Fall Bazaar on Sunday, September 25th. Be sure to stop by and meet Miriam and check out all her amazing artisan goods!
